Same Day Delivery

How many times have we ordered online and waited a few days for the delivery? perhaps every time, though next day delivery has become common for some types of products from some eCommerce stores.

Buying directly from a local store after searching in Google Maps by doing a local search, getting driving  directions and then driving to the local store for purchase and pick up is most convenient. Local stores because of heavy competition from eCommerce stores, now also offer competitive pricing, have improved store ambiances and offer physically present staff to help facilitate in product model selection and purchase. Since local stores now tie up with loyalty program vendors, gift/deals program vendors, credit card companies etc. they also offer good deals and discounts. So local shops have morphed themselves well in recent years after facing competition from online eCommerce stores. Another big differentiation of buying this way (use Google Maps to search local stores, get driving directions and then drive to the spot for final selection, purchase and pick up) is the advantage of same day delivery. You can always call each local store checked out in Google Maps if the required product item is available, even read user reviews in Google local search etc before deciding to drive to pick up after completing final selection and purchase - all within hours on same day. This same day cycle from deciding to buy to getting the product items in your hands is a very important shopper experience.

So online eCommerce stores also needed to embrace this service and some companies like eBay, Amazon, Google and Walmart have been running experiments on same day deliveries. Of course smaller, niche e-tailers selling flowers, cakes and some types of gifts online have been able to offer same day delivery successfully within the specific geographic regions they operate.

Amazon has tested same day delivery of Amazon Fresh, it's online grocery service. eBay had launched a new service eBay Now in San Francisco and  few more cities like San Jose, Dallas. eBay Now has mostly been a courier service (like FedExs etc.) where a courier pick-ups the items from a local store and delivers to buyers door steps within same day. This eBay Now service was offered mainly through local stores, for a buyer this reduced the need to get driving directions and drive to the store location to pick up. Last month eBay Now service was extended to eBay's online & mobile stores for select items and select eBay sellers. eBay Now service even offers within 1 hour delivery in some cities for some types of items.
